4 Reasons to Start Switching to Safer Cleaning Products
The number one question I get is where to start switching to safer. Most commonly my answer is to start with what you need to replace so you are in charge of what you are bringing into your home. But if you are ready to tackle one area I highly suggest your cleaning products! Here are some reasons why:
You Are Probably Not Emotionally Attached to Your Cleaning Products.
Many people have a hard time switching out skincare or cosmetics first because those products have done so much for you over the years. They travel with you everywhere, that lipstick made you feel confident on a rough day or you’ve been using the same bottles so long they are basically your roommates.
Now think about your cleaning products. Not so aspirational right? It will be much easier for you to grasp replacing your cleaning products than it is your personal care products.
It’s a Safer Move for the Whole Family.
Many ingredients in common cleaning products have been linked to asthma, allergies, respiratory disorders, infertility and hormone disruption. (Learn more HERE.)
Common ingredients you will find in most products include: bleach, formaldehyde, synthetic fragrance and parabens.
Cleaning products cover almost every surface in the home and affect indoor air quality; therefore, switching this one area in your life is a safer move for the whole family.
Added win: get your kids involved in cleaning day without the fear of wondering where all those crazy smells come from.
A common fear with switching to safer products is that they will be lacking performance. Well let me tell you they work! Green science has come a long way and you can tackle even the toughest stains for grime with these brands. (Hello Branch Basics Oxygen Boost)
Top performing brands I love: Puracy, Seventh Generation, Branch Basics, Ecos, Better Life (stay tuned for more info on this Thursday.)
You will save a lot of money by using safer brands. You can find them discounted on Amazon Prime, Thrive Market, discount stores (Ross, TJ Maxx etc.).
Tip: find a brand whose solutions have multiple uses to really cut down on cost. (Branch Basics is the best at this!)
DIY. You can make a lot of your own cleaning products with lemon, baking soda and vinegar. Give it a quick google. DIY just isn’t my thing.
Where to start? My go to brand to replace pretty much everything in the home is Branch Basics. I suggest the $69 starter set with the Oxygen Boost. This is a miracle worker for everything: clothing stains, furniture stains, grime, mold, brighter whites etc. You can read more HERE and shop HERE.
