Safer Sunscreen Cheat Sheet

Every year I highlight sunscreen because it is so important to stay updated on what’s safe! Thank goodness there are more and more brands that are providing safe, quality coverage! I hope this graphic above helps you understand the key differences between physical and chemical sunscreens. A few important tips I want to point out this year:

  • Anything higher than SPF 50 is likely marketing and providing a false sense of extra protection.

  • Make sure to reapply after sweating or getting wet.

  • No matter what reapply every two hours. If you are more sensitive like me shoot for every hour.

  • SPF only protects against UVB rays (burn rays); however, both UVA and UVB rays can contribute to skin cancers. Make sure you are getting a “broad spectrum” sunscreen that protects against both.
