Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

PART 4: GOTS is one of the first labels I came across when shopping for bedding. It stands for the Global Organic Textile Standard and ensures the that the production of items made with organic fibers (think cotton and wool) are safe for you and the environment. This video explains everything in really simple terms.

GOTS goes deeper than just making sure the fibers are organic, but it makes sure the production is done in a safe, fair environment and that it is not treated with harmful chemicals. It is considered one of the strictest standards in the textile industry and is extremely tough to get certified. This is the best, highest standard for organic cotton.

OEKO-TEX is excellent for synthetic fibers, like polyester, but does not have as high of standards for cotton as GOTS. I love this breakdown of the two certifications by Alterra Pure to understand the difference. When looking for organic cotton GOTS is the highest standard that tracks purity and safety all the way from the seed (literally.)
